This is another model from the new Viking range, the Berserker, I previously reviewed the Hammer model. Its a theme based around the Viking culture as mentioned before and I believe the Berserker was a Viking warrior that fought in a trance like fury and obviously why we have the expression he/she/it went berserk 🙂 This is the centre weighted model of the range.
Its a rugby ball style shape or double tapered. The front starts with a small section with a couple of grooves and then the rest of the front taper is made up of a kind of flattish smoothed off shark style grip with lateral notches cut through. The centre section is an even parallel shape and has the new Siege grip. I described this in the Hammer review as kind of concave rings with circular indents and little square notches cut through it. Not sure why but for me it just felt a fraction more grippy on this model. The rear section is the same as on the Hammer darts a thin ring with lateral grooves cut through it, then the end of the barrel is a short smooth section.
So another neat model from Shot and one that worked better for me than I was expecting.
I think its a very smooth flying for me and was a little surprised at that. As where I grip on that front taper feels a little on the short side for me so was expecting it to ping off my thumb at iffy angles but was not so. I am not so sure I feel totally comfortable with it as a front gripper but then I dont think its meant to be for fronties but in my case I think its just how it sits on my thumb, other front grippers may really like it. Also the balance was not bad at all, it just had a slight kick up but was very steady feeling.
For middle grippers though it does feel a very good balance there. It flew a little bit flatter for me and I did get some spin at first but after I got a bit more used to the feel it was flying very smooth again. Was a little more comfy due to the wider more even grip though.
I found it a little less comfy on the rear and as with the Hammers the rear grip has a slightly hexagonal feel, I think the Hammers threw a little better from the rear for me than these but they were not too bad, so may work if you already like this style and your a rear gripper.
So I would say defintely one to try for middle grippers but could also be worth a look for some front grippers, rear grippers probably only if you already like this style. Overall though a nicely balanced flight and probably down to the shape and centre of gravity I think.
Again the darts are nicely machined and the red colour looks great still may be a little too busy in the design for some people but its an interesting grip all the same.
