As you may have already seen Peter “snakebite” Wright has been using another new set of darts in the PDC World Championships 2021, Red Dragon Darts have recently released them, the Peter “Snakebite Wright World Champion Tapered Special Edition! Long name that lol! 🙂
Its as the name states a tapered style barrel, a strong front half taper then a more gentle mid to rear taper. It has a black and rainbow PVD coating and a flattish razor style grip.
The front taper is so Peter Wright can group his darts better, but seriously he can throw anything so does it make a difference? If I stuck points on a hot dog he would still hit 180s with them! 😛
As I have said often as a front gripper I am not always happy to hold the darts on a thin taper but its nice these have at least got some half decent grip. Some front grippers may be very happy with them though.
I feel like the darts would suit middle and rear grippers best though. The middle section has a mix of flat wide bands, thin rings and grooves and a kind of wider deeper scallop groove which lets you feel the rings either side a little more. I think it also makes a easy to locate reference point.
From the rear the darts sit nicely in the fingers and as its thicker felt a little better too than the front, although I am not a natural rear gripper I think they will likely work well for those who are.
The grip is a razor style but not that grippy as it is quite flattish to the barrel, so just medium to slightly above medium.
Darts are nicely made and coated, quite a neat look overall and as its a top players dart not too badly priced either.
