This is the Ballista from Shot Darts new Roman Empire themed range. There is three models in the range and they all feature Shots new Testudo grip. Testudo is the formation the roman soldiers made with their sheilds to protect from incoming fire.

Its a very nice range and the Ballista is a straight barrel style with a lovely bronze titanium coating. The dart is fairly long at nearly 54mm so a touch long for me personally but it still felt great to throw. As well as the Testudo grip it has some nice beveled ring style grip and the Shot Hilt grip on the rear. Its a mix of levels with the Hilt grip being the grippiest part but overall a very nicely machined barrel with something for most grip styles I think.

For me as a front gripper the Testudo grip feels nice but not as grippy as I would like but just in front is a nice beveled rings which provides a neat push point with a fair amount of grip.

The darts felt nicely balanced around the centre and flew well for me and the rear as said is the grippiest area so if you like a decent grip then great!

I think people who may like to spread their fingers along the barrel may like it best but no reason why it should not work well for any style if you like a long barrel, guess it just depends where your finger placement is and whether the level of grip is right for you there.

Its a really neatly machined dart though and suits the Roman theme but just a very nice dart regardless.

Price is always a bit of an issue for the U.K. market, its £79 delivered from New Zealand which is not that bad all considered but its likely to be that price in U.K. shops too which puts a little dampener on it when its £63 when sold in New Zealand. So value is a bit mixed, on one hand there is some very high quality design and machining and nice coating but we would all like to have it cheaper 🙂

Worth a look if you like long darts and want something unique and fancy looking with nice grip 🙂
