These are the new Aspria darts from Winmaus 2018 range. The darts have the new Axis grip and there is two models, this is the straight longer barrel version and they are a dual core tungsten barrel with 95% tungsten on the front half and 85% tungsten on the rear half. They have a black Onyx coating with gold plating in the grooves.
Its a straight barrel dart with a slight taper to the nose and the very end of the barrel. There is two main sections of the Axis grip front and rear and 3 small section of thin rings and grooves with the gold plating in the grooves and four small smooth sections. Overall I would say grip level is around medium to just slightly above medium.
These are a nice looking set with the gold plated grooves giving a very nice highlight against the black but the Axis grip itself is kind of attractive in a way. I was not sure about them when I first took them out the box though. The balnce felt like it was nice for my front grip but the grip was not feeling as unique as I thought it might. The closest I can say it feels is a kind of more uniform and possibly slightly grippier knurl style but as it is also in rings you also get a ring feel too.
Upon throwing the darts though I think its a much better grip than knurl, its not aggressive but I did not have any slippy feelings like I sometimes get with knurl and after a while I started to really like the feel of it. The darts shape is fairly comfortable but for me the thing that seemed to stand out the best was the balance. I find it hard to say why but something feels just right and the more I have played with them the better that feel has got but I have felt a kind of assuredness when throwing them.
I have been playing with them a lot the last few days and have grown to really like them. I know I have been throwing them well as I have had four robin hoods and my grouping has been good as I have mangled the flights a fair bit lol! I very nearly beat my best on consecutive doubles yesterday, got 8 in a row but wired the 9th, if the 9th had gone in that would have been my best. Not sure why but I seem to be doing very well on doubles with these.
I dont honestly know if its the darts or if I am just playing a bit better at present but I suspect if anything its the balance that is suiting me but for all I know maybe the Axis grip is having some effect that I cant really tell but can see the results of, I am not sure, but I am sure that I like them and they just may be my favourite set of the year so far 🙂
Quality overall is very nice, perfectly match weighted and neatly machined and a nice dark Onyx coaitng. I guess the only issue is the price. At near £65 its obviously not a cheap dart but having said that it is a dual core barrel and has a fair bit of machining on them as well as the Onyx and gold plating coatings so may be its about right?
