These are the new Carnage darts from Red Dragons 2018 range. There is 4 models in the range and these are the Carnage 2. The darts are 90% tungsten with a black PVD coating and shot blasted axial grooves.
The darts come in a foil pack and inside they are supplied with the RD Tri Fold wallet which is always very handy and good to have. The darts are fitted into a point protector and supplied with a set of the new RD Nitro Tech stems which I think are the medium size although they match up to a normal nylon Tweenie size. There is also 2 sets of the new 100 micron standard shape Hardcore Radical flights:
Its a straight barrel dart with a rounded bull nose and the bulk of the barrel is made up of rather nice widely spaced facetted style ring grip which TheBlindPew correctly described as looking like a grenade 🙂 For the sake of the review I will just call it Carnage grip. Its a high level grip and the coating seems to add a little to it. The rear has a smooth natural tungsten section and then the rest of the barrel is a thin rounded ring grip so a low medium level.
Its a neat looking dart and I think the small natural silvery tungsten section adds some nice contrast but obviously means the main feature which is the Carnage grip is not carried the full length of the barrel as beyond that is a standard ring grip. Obviously its not an entirely new style of grip as its a facetted style but its a little more widely spaced and slightly deeper grooved than some. I think the contrast between the shot blasted grooves and the slightly shinier surface of the darts adds another interesting cosmetic to the overall look.
The grip almost felt a little hexagonal when I rolled the dart in my fingers but overall I really like the feel of it and I think the PVD coating is just adding that little extra feel of dryness without causing any slippy feeling, I think a lot will like this grip 🙂
As for the darts performance well its a shape that can suit many and I was certainly happy with my front grip, I did get a little bit of a mix through the air at first with some darts spinning a lot and some flying smooth and the odd one spiralling a little but now I have played with the longer and got a little more used to the grip they are flying a lot smoother. I still get the odd one spinning but not noticed anymore spiralling, I think it was just getting used to releasing the darts without gripping too tightly and am enjoying the feel of the grip more now.
Overall I would say the darts are best for front and middle grippers as you get the advantage of the nice Carnage grip 🙂
Darts are very nice quality and great feel to them and you get a decent wallet and some nice flights and stems. I dont usually like alloy topped stems but they hold the flights well and look great too. Value wise I dont think its too crazily priced for what you get either.
