As you may know Michael van Gerwen recently signed with Winmau darts and they launced a variety of products under the MVG Design label. A few new models of darts were also launched in both steel and soft tip.
I bought the MVG Authentic from Red Dragon Darts here: http://bit.ly/2FVGZKD The main reason I bought this model was because to me it looks the closest to his old darts, at time of writing its not yet clear if MVG is going to switch to any of the new models although I think he recently tried the Authentics so I guess time will tell 🙂
The MVG Authentic is an 85% tungsten barrel but still follows the straight barrel ring grip style which is already very similar to MVG’s darts and is a tried and tested style for many.
This particular version has a nice atomised coating within the grooves but its hard to really say if it makes a difference to the feel of the dart but probably nicer than a bog standard enamel paint job. Overall it just adds a little touch of flair to the dart and gives it an almost elegant look.
There is three smooth sections on the barrel that are fairly wide so of course it depends where you grip it, but for front and past mid to rear grippers its ok as the ring grip is decent and a touch grippier than it looks.
Its one of them darts that is kind of in the Goldilocks zone, not too grippy, not too slippy, not too long and not too short. For that reason it could suit any style of grip but I think front and just past centre grippers get the best from it.
As MVG is a premium name the price at £39.95 is not too bad, its a basic style but I guess they could have added another £5 or £10 on top due to the name if they were being extra greedy, so its good they kept them around the £40 mark.
Quality is fine, no complaints, coating and machining is nice and neat.
Since playing with the darts a little more I have got used to them and they are flying better but I think a touch on the thin side for me personally but some people prefer a thinner dart.
