Another great addition to the Shot Warrior range, these are the Kapene or Captain. Like the others in the range they have a beautifully etched tattoo design on the barrels. These are one of the best looking sets from Shot I think. As with the others the design has some significance to the culture around New Zealand, but there is even a deeper meaning as you can see from the copied text from the Shot site below:
The Ultimate Warrior
To celebrate 50 years of dedication to making darts, we wanted to create something special for our global tribe of players. The Warrior Kapene showcases where Shot has come from and embodies the spirit of where we’re going – a nod to our past and future.
Kapene translates as Captain – a tribal leader to guide us into the next 50 years. This dart is inspired by our home, and honours the warrior within. We commissioned Tauranga carver Whare Thompson to design a sleeve ‘Ta Moko’ tattoo that wraps around and runs along the length of the barrel and is echoed in the flight.
Forged through fierce competition and battle-hardened technique, honed since 1970, Warrior Kapene steps forward to steer our global tribe into the next 50 years. With a straight shape and centre weight, Kapene boasts a generous shark grip along the barrel. Rear and front scallops give this 90% Tungsten dart set two positive throw areas – for a strong push and a sure reference point. Armoured in superfine Titanium with a laser-etched Ta Moko (tribal tattoo) sleeve that’s echoed in its flight.
The Kapene is a very agile dart, with grip featuring along the entire barrel, dart players can find positive finger placement at any point. A slight front scallop follows the smooth ring grip nose; then flows on to a telescopic-like wide shark grip. A more extensive scallop features at the rear of the dart. The decorative Cinder Grip has been laser applied and adds a layer of superfine traction which aids a controlled throw.

Once again Shot have created a fantastic looking design on a barrel that also has a very interesting grip. The full length of the barrel has something for every player but I particularly liked the feel of the scalloped sections. There is a short scallop at the front half and a longer scallop on the rear. It has a pronounced set of beveled rings which give a nice subtle grip which feels very pleasant in the fingers. The rest of the barrel is a mix of rings and small shark style grip but should be a great all rounder.
I think the coating or may be the etching is adding a slightly dry almost powdery feel which adds to the grip a little too.
It a touch on the long side for me personally but was very nice to throw regardless.
It looks so nice that its nearly a shame to throw it and mark it up though lol!
There is obviously a lot of work gone into this dart and the price may be a reflection of that, its not cheap but it does not feel as hard to take as it would if it was a lesser dart.
Quality is great and although the look may not be to everyone’s taste I am sure it will get some notice 🙂
