These are the new Target Stephen “Bullet” Bunting Gen 4 darts recently released and very eagerly awaited by many! As you may or may not know Buntings own weight is 12g which is one of if not the lightest darts used by a pro. I think the 12g version sold out very quick and I am reviewing the 25g version. So dimensions on the 25g are obviously a little bigger but its still the same shape and grip and comes fitted with the Swiss points but sadly not the same points I believe Bunting was using.
The grip is a very fine radial milled grip with lateral cuts making a kind of waffle look which is then given a lovely red electro plated coating, so its a very nice looking dart 🙂 The Target site says its a straight barrel dart in the description, not sure if thats an error as it is certainly not a straight barrel but a front taper or torpedo style, wide at front and then thin on rear. A very nice shape in fact.
The pack also has the Swiss point tool for changing the points but no extra points.
When I first seen the new Gen 4 Bunting darts I really liked the look of them and was like many curious to know what the grip felt like. Not sure why but I thought it may be quite grippy with lots of little edgy blocks. So I was surprised to find its not that grippy at all, its not a bad surprise but I kind was hoping it was going to have a little more grip. Still it makes for a dart that releases from the fingers nice and easy and I had no problems with slipping so should be enough for many I guess.
I think as a front gripper I found the balance nice for me but I actually felt more comfortable with the middle grip. About mid to rear sits in the fingers very nicely but middle seems to have the best feel for balance and comfort overall. I think Bunting grips close to the rear but he has a kind of strange almost flicky style so it works for him. For that reason though some rear grippers may feel happy with the darts but it will feel a little more front heavy.
Overall though its a nice dart with a nice feel but personally I think I would have liked a touch more grip, great looking darts though!
