I bought these from Red Dragon some time ago now, I think I only really got them because they had finally made a green PVD coating, but that’s more than enough reason for me LOL!!! 😀 Anyway a few people have been asking for a review so I finally got round to it 🙂 These are Peter Wrights 16th set from Red Dragon and I think with the Mamba name its the first set to be called a snakes name, so may be they should have named all the sets after snakes? They may run out of types of snakes though! 😛
Its pretty much a straight barrel dart with squarish bull nose and a tapered section towards the rear. The grip has a kind of shark/razor style grip with a thin edged ring that has grooves or notches cut through laterally and a few smooth sections and rings. Its not quite as aggressive as it looks but still high level.
Well like I mention above I only bought these as they were in a green pvd coating and was not really expecting them to work well for me as they are quite long but I probably would have bought them to try regardless. I think the darts look good but was a little disappointed the green colour was not deeper and more vibrant but of course that is just aesthetics and they still look the part but do they act the part?
I think for me as a front gripper the only issue I have is with the length but it strangely felt like a nicely weighted dart for me all the same, I dont think they were bad and at times were flying good but sometimes I would get a little fishtailing even with the short stems on and I sometimes got a fair bit of spin which I think was just my release acting on the grip. But I think if your a front gripper that likes a long barrel they are certainly nice enough to warrant a try.
The grip is a good one and has enough bite to keep control and it mostly released smoothly without sticking into the skin.
From the middle was not too bad for me, it felt a little more comfortable to hold but I actually saw more fishtailing, its probably just down to me but I also suspect it was because I was partly on the smooth section and a little on the grippy section. But after a bit more practice I got them flying smooher so should be ok for natural middle grippers I guess.
I was not so good on the rear and saw a lot more spin but again its no doubt just down to me and also the fact it was more awkward due to the length but I did have some darts that flew smoothly and again with a little more practice they were flying better but I was still getting plenty of spin from the grip.
I think its probably a good all rounder though, if you like a fairly grippy long dart no matter what position you grip in I think you will like them, for me personally its a bit of a mixed bag, at times I can get them flying very well and smooth and other times they are flying at all angles 🙂
