This is another model from their new Ronin range, these are the Ronin Rei.  The darts have a unique grip style which Shot call Masonary Grip front and rear and Gauntlet Grip in the middle.

Its a straight barrel dart with a short slight tapered nose then the barrel is made up of three sections of grip. The front and rear are the brick like Masonary grip which is high level grip and the centre is the Gauntlet Grip which is a kind of flat double ring shark grip with fine lateral cuts through it.  The very rear is a short smooth tapered section.  The red Hi Tec particle coating amonges the grooves and indents give it a striking bold look.  Overall the grip level is high.

Well I loved the look of the Ronin Yu but I think I like the look of these Rei even more.  The red is a lot more prominent on these and its a strikingly bold contrast against the silver tungsten and coupled with the unique style of grip it just looks great!

The Masonary Grip kind of feels exactly how it looks, like little edgy square blocks with kind of deep grooves or indents in between.  I was expecting it to be a little too grippy but while it is kind of unique and very grippy it released from the fingers better than I thought.  I thought the darts would be spinning and flying off at all angles but it was not that bad if a little mixed at times.  I think the grip does play some part in how the darts fly on release though as I would get some that had a little spin and then some that were super smooth and also sometimes the dart felt like it took off a little zippier than other times.  But now I have had more extended play time with them I have gotten a little more used to it and they are flying more consistently although I think the Yu dart I previously reviewed suits my overall throw better.

Throwing the darts from the middle section the grip is not as grippy there as the front or rear but still has a very nice feel to it and as its a straight barrel it was a nice balance and generally smoother overall through the air.  I quite like the feel of that grip too and think it may be good to have a dart covered fully in that grip design 🙂

When trying the darts from the rear I got quite a lot more spin but suspect its more down to the fact its not my natural grip so would imaging its fine for rear grippers.

I would say overall its probably a good all rounder.  The darts will suit those who like a grippy style of barrel whether your a front or rear gripper but I think plenty of middle grippers should be very happy with it too.

Quality is great as usual and once again I like the way the red coating sheens in the light, still a little on the pricey side but a little easier to bear than the YU I guess 🙂
