I have had lots of requests to review these and was keen to do so myself after first seeing them. Often these Taylor Power 9five darts are a little quirky so dont always suit me but I thought this particular model was more of a traditional classic style while still looking very elegant. I think with the set up it comes with is what makes it look so good but at its heart its really quite basic compared to some of the previous models but I think elegant and sophisticated looking probably fits it well 🙂
As the name implies its 95% tungsten but I think the high price is more down to the players name, and its a big one of course! Also this generation six comes with the Target Swiss point system so no doubt adding a little more again to the overall price.
I have made a video previously discussing the Swiss points so will just quickly say that I am still not overly fussed on the idea even though I do appreciate its engineering and design, changing points often is not something I do so for me I would be happy with just a fixed point really.
I know a lot of people have derided the system as a gimmick and I think thats justified but I also have seen people who love it so I guess its whatever the individual wants/likes, but I could do without the slight inkling in the back of my mind that at any time the point may break at its built in fail safe break section, I know its easy to replace but still not some extra distraction you want in your head really. I have been told by Target that the points are stronger now than when they first came out but I have no proof of that.
Anyway the darts themselves are really nice although I still dislike the tiny Taylor Vapor flights, thats why I got the 22g version, previously 26g with those little flights flew erratically 🙂
These are much better behaved and since playing with them longer I have actually found them great fun and very enjoyable to practice with, I still go back to my standards though lol.
The dart is not that long but it does look longer when you first set eyes on it, I think it could be down to the full set up its supplied with and how nicely it works together. The rear section is hand sandblasted but its not very grippy at all, it does improve a little as it warms in the fingers but no good if you need more substantial grip.
I think the dart works really well from around the middle section though, balance is great but its also got the grippiest part of the barrel which is almost verging on to a high medium but feels so good to throw from there even for me 🙂
There is still some grip at the front but a low medium and its also chunkier there but I still felt happy with it.
So a really nice looking dart that could possibly suit any style if a slightly front weighted barrel is your thing but the level of grip may be what decides if its for you or not.
The barrels are nicely machined with no issues but the sand blasted coating I dont see lasting long, it already has a few scrapes from the points, its not overly complicated design either, which is may be a good thing in this generation of the 9 five 🙂
