I already reviewed the bulbous version and think that is a rather nice dart so was keen to try this parallel or straight version, now I am not sure which I prefer but could be leaning towards this version I think 🙂
As said before the dart has a neat mix of angled or beveled rings and thin rings which at first glance looks quite aggressive.
When you feel the dart though although it is fairly grippy its not got that sticky edgy feeling that you may expect and as I mentioned in the previous review I think most of the grippiness is coming from the spacing in between the rings rather than the actual sharpness of them.
This is the more traditional and more widely used straight barrel shape so has the potential to be a good all rounder and suit most styles of grip. It is a fairly chunky feeling barrel so if you prefer thin darts may be not for you but I liked the feel of them.
Was hard to say which version suited me best but I think these may have been a little easier to throw overall and possibly a touch smoother through the air, both very nice darts but this one will have most appeal due to the shape I suspect.
The black ti coating adds a nice contrast to the natural tungsten and I give this version a little more in the score for looks, just seems to suit this shape better. I think if you are a mid to rear gripper then it really depends on what suits you most, this has still got a slightly grippier mid to rear section but if you prefer a scallop then go for the bulbous.
If you like to grip right at the end then the little lip in front of the Harrows logo is nice for pushing against and flew better for me than I thought there so for very end of barrel grippers it could work well.
I would say front and mid to rear get the best of the barrel though 🙂
Overall quality is excellent again I saw no issues with machining or coating and as before the price is not too bad at all for a dart with all this machining.
So the Strix range is certainly worth a look and I think whether you are a front, middle or rear gripper one of the models should work well for you 🙂
