This is the Legion from Shot Darts new Roman Empire themed range. There is three models in the range and they all feature Shots new Testudo grip. Testudo is the formation the roman soldiers made with their sheilds to protect from incoming fire. I have already reviewed the Ballista but this Legion model also has another grip type called the colosseum grip.
Once again Its a very nice looking dart and the gold titanium coating highlights all the right parts to make for a great style. I have to say that this was probably the one I liked the least when I first saw the pics but in the flesh I think its far far better and really suits the roman theme, almost feels like some roman weapon 🙂
Its a front weighted scalloped style, which although I am a front gripper its not usually a favoured shape of mine. As with the Ballista the Testudo and Colosseum grips are closer to medium level, so if you need more grip and are a front gripper then it may not be enough for you. There is some edginess to the deep cuts to the Colosseum grip though but as you can see the front is fairly chunky so guess thats another thing you need to like 🙂
If it is the style that you like as a front gripper then its got a nice balance but I think for grippiness the scalloped middle and the rear are best.
The scallop section felt just a touch more grippy to me than the rear, probably because of the scallop shape and how it fits the shape of the fingers. I think its also quite comfy holding the dart there and seems to fly smoothest through the air.
For rear grippers you do have some grip almost right to the end of the barrel and it did not fly too bad for me so just depends if this shape suits you or not.
So I would say front and middle grippers get the best balance and middle and rear grippers get the grippiest parts but overall its probably middle grippers that get the best out of it altogether.
The darts are perfectly machined again from shot, its very nice quality all round and the coating just adds that finishing touch. Probably a bit too fancy for some but if you want something fancy and a little blingy then it works well for that 🙂
