The Sigma HS is the latest model in the Unicorn Sigma series and is said by Unicorn to be the most stable of the series.
The Sigma series has always been made as a complete set up to provide the player with the best aerodynamically stable dart using mathematic principles as stated in the blurb on the Unicorn site as follows:
Using the mathematical principles that drive Unicorn’s UniLab program, the Sigma HS has been aerodynamically optimised to provide high in-flight stability.
Ensuring a more consistent board impact angle, your set arrives as an integrated unit fitted with Gripper 4 medium shafts and ULTRAFLY Sigma HS Big Wing flights.
The alternative set-up of Sigma HS 7075 aluminium shafts with ULTRAFLY Sigma HS Plus flights still offers great stability but with enhanced accuracy. Sigma HS 7075 shafts and Converta points are made of aviation grade aluminium which is able to match most steel alloys in terms of strength and is one of the strongest aluminium alloys available.
That style has been the unique selling point of the series ever since the first model but in the end it still boils down what suits the individuals grip and throw, but its nice to have some science behind it all 🙂
I have always seen the Sigma dart as a very sleek dart but I dont think its one that has personally been right for me. I think the Sigma HS is also the same in that regard. For me the balance seems just sweet around mid to rear so I think that is who its likely going to suit best.
Its a beautiful looking dart and certainly has a sci-fi R2D2 feel about it with that lovely blue ti coating.
Grip on the front is nice but I am not always keen on tapers on darts and even though its fairly short I still feel balance is best for mid to rear grippers.
The grip on centre is fine but on rear its less grippy so again that is down to personal choice what you prefer. I do think the grippy sections would have felt more grippy if they were wider though.
I noticed when throwing with my natural grip it just was not as smooth through the air as when throwing from centre or even the rear, so again furthering my suspicions its not quite right for me.
Its very nicely presented again in the deluxe packaging and comes with nice extras. The new HS alloy shafts are particularly nice actually, even though I am not a fan of alloy stems, these seem rather good.
Quality overall was great but there was some burring on the edges of grooves but not so noticeable unless you are searching for such things. I do like the fact they used the blue ti coating on the grooves instead of enamel paint though, its so much better and should last better too. Blue ti coated points are neat but they will no doubt wear as to be expected.
Overall then a very nice dart but if you are a front gripper you may be best to try them first, some fronties may love them if they suit you but I think mid and rear grippers will like them a lot.
