Had a lot of request to review these Willie O’Connor darts from the Winmau 2021 launch. As with a lot of the new range a lot of the stock was hard to get. Thankfully I managed to buy a set from Bully Darts here: https://www.bullydarts.co.uk/ But I think many shops are still short of a lot of the new Winmau range, pretty poor really.

Anyway the darts came and at first I thought I was set a wrong set as the box was a kind of generic grey Winmau box, nothing wrong with the box as it is but I was expecting to see Willie O’Connors name at least on the packaging, but it was on a white label stuck on the rear.

The darts are a fairly simple design and a classic ring grip. Some have said that the darts are too pricey because of that but I think you have to take into account that a players name always adds more to the price and its not the brands fault if that player uses a simple design, in truth a lot of players do because its what tends to work best for most.

The darts have a tapered nose and then a fairly wide ring grip with equally wide grooves with 3 of the grooves painted in the Irish colours. Past middle is a smooth section and then a thinner ring grip right to the end of the barrel.

Looking at Willie O’Connors grip he has his thumb and index finger on the rear section, so guess you can say he is a rear gripper 🙂

The darts are probably a good all round style though, dont see why they should not work for all grip types, just depends on whether its the right length etc and what grip you need.

I think it has a slightly chunky feel especially near the front, it likely down to the wider ring grip but its also just a little under 7mm so a fairly thick barrel anyway.

For me it flew fine and was certainly better to throw from the rear than I was expecting. Not a bad dart all round really.

So I guess if you are a fan of the player its worth getting a set but if you want a dart like this you may find similar for cheaper.
